The 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated on August 7, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Vice President of India will be the Chief Guest, with Union Textiles Minister Shri Giriraj Singh and Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita also in attendance. National Handloom Day: Awards and Releases

During the ceremony, the Sant Kabir Awards and National Handloom Awards will be presented to honor exceptional contributions in the handloom sector. Additionally, an Award Catalogue and the Coffee Table Book titled “Parampara – Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India” will be released.

Significance of the Day

National Handloom Day, celebrated annually since 2015, marks the anniversary of the Swadeshi Movement launched on August 7, 1905. This movement promoted indigenous industries, particularly handloom weaving, and the day serves to honor and inspire handloom weavers while raising awareness about the sector’s cultural and economic significance.

Nationwide Celebrations

In celebration of the 10th National Handloom Day, various activities are planned across India. These include social media campaigns, handloom exhibitions at Virasat and Delhi Haat, a special sourcing show in Varanasi, and educational events at the Crafts Museum and schools. The celebrations aim to promote the handloom industry and engage the public in appreciating this vital part of India’s heritage.
