The Indian student team achieved remarkable success at the 17th International Earth Sciences Olympiad (IESO) held in Beijing from August 08-16, 2024. The four-member team, representing Gujarat, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, secured three gold, two silver, and one bronze medals across theory, practical, and field investigation categories.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Earth Sciences and other key departments, extended congratulations to the Indian team for their stellar performance. He praised their achievements, emphasizing their contribution to elevating India’s standing in global academic competitions.
Significance of IESO and MoES Support
The IESO, established in 2003, aims to foster interest in earth sciences through global collaboration and competition. The Indian team’s success is supported by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) through the REACHOUT scheme, enhancing student engagement in earth system sciences.
Pre-Selection through INESO
Indian students prepare for IESO through the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO), a national-level competition organized by the Geological Society of India in collaboration with MoES. Top performers from INESO represent India at the IESO, supported by the PRITHVI scheme for enhanced earth sciences education.
