The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) Scheme has seen great success in providing health insurance coverage to India’s poor and vulnerable populations.
The Economic Survey 2022-23 reports that over 21.9 crore beneficiaries have been verified under the scheme, with approximately 4.3 crore hospital admissions authorized.
The scheme, which offers health coverage of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year, aims to minimize out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare and has been deemed the world’s largest health insurance program.
In addition to the AB PM-JAY Scheme, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs) have been established to further improve the accessibility and affordability of quality healthcare in India.
The AB-HWCs provide comprehensive primary healthcare services and have seen a cumulative footfall of over 135 crores. The AB Digital Mission aims to create a secure online platform for health records and has already created 31.11 crore Ayushman Bharat health accounts and linked 7.52 crore health records.
Overall, the Economic Survey 2022-23 highlights the significant progress made in India’s healthcare system through the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat initiatives.
