Adil Hussain (born on 5 October 1963) is an Indian actor who has worked in both Indian cinemas, including art house cinema and mainstream Bollywood, as well as international cinema. He has appeared in The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Life of Pi, among other films.
Adil Hussain received the National Film Award at the 2017 National Film Awards for Hotel Salvation and Maj Rati Keteki.
Adil Hussain has starred in films in various languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian, and French.
Hussain, the youngest of seven children, was born in 1963 in Goalpara, Assam, where his father was the headmaster of a high secondary school.
He started acting in college plays and performing as a stand-up comedian when he left home at age 18 to study philosophy at B. Borooah College, Guwahati. On a Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship, he also studied at the Drama Studio London.
