Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Arun Jaitley on Birth Anniversary: A Statesman Remembered

Home Minister Amit Shah took to social media to remember and pay tribute to Arun Jaitley on his birth anniversary. Shah acknowledged Jaitley’s profound impact on Indian politics and law, describing him as an astute lawmaker and legal expert who dedicated his expertise to safeguarding citizens’ rights.

In his homage, Amit Shah expressed, “On Arun Jaitley’s birth anniversary, we reflect on the legacy of this astute lawmaker. Jaitley Ji generously applied his extensive legal expertise to champion the rights of citizens.” Shah underscored Jaitley’s lasting impact, affirming, “Arun Jaitley Ji’s contributions to our social and political fabric ensure that he will always be remembered in our collective consciousness.”

“Arun Jaitley, born on December 28, 1952, was a prominent figure in Indian politics and law. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he served as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs from 2014 to 2019 in the governments led by both Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi”.

Arun Jaitley’s political journey included holding key cabinet portfolios such as Finance, Defence, Corporate Affairs, Commerce and Industry, and Law and Justice. His role as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2014 showcased his parliamentary leadership.

“Notable achievements during Arun Jaitley’s tenure include the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the merger of the Railway budget with the general budget, demonetization, and the introduction of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. Despite health issues, Jaitley’s dedication to public service was unwavering”.

Arun Jaitley was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, posthumously in 2020 for his significant contributions to Public Affairs.
