Veer Abdul Hameed Ansari, a soldier in the Indian Army, displayed unwavering courage and determination during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Despite facing limited resources, he single-handedly destroyed multiple enemy tanks, becoming a symbol of India’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

A Param Vir Chakra Awardee

In recognition of his extraordinary valor and selfless sacrifice, Veer Abdul Hameed was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration. His actions during the Battle of Asal Uttar on 9–10 September 1965, where he destroyed eight Pakistani tanks before giving his life to destroy the ninth, stand as a testament to his unparalleled bravery.

A Legacy of Bravery

Abdul Hamid Ansari joined the Indian Army in December 1954 and served with dedication throughout his career. His service included participation in the Sino-Indian War of 1962, where his battalion played a pivotal role in the Battle of Namka Chu.

The Battle of Asal Uttar

During the 1965 war, the 4th Grenadiers battalion, to which Abdul Hamid belonged, was entrusted with a critical position near the village of Chima on the Khem Karan–Bhikhiwind line. It was here that he exhibited exceptional courage and determination, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy and forcing them to retreat.
