Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, is set to inaugurate the state-of-the-art Office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies at the World Trade Centre, Naoroji Nagar, New Delhi, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The event signifies a milestone in the efforts to fortify cooperative societies, driven by the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Cooperation Minister.
Since the establishment of the Ministry of Cooperation, several strategic measures have been implemented to enhance the functionality of the Office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies. Amendments to the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, and associated rules, the launch of a ‘Digital Portal,’ and the formation of a ‘Cooperative Election Authority’ are among the key initiatives. Additional efforts include the creation of two panels of auditors, the formulation of bye-laws templates, the appointment of Cooperative Information Officers, and the establishment of an Ombudsman for grievance resolution.
The new building, tailored to accommodate the officers and officials of the Central Registrar’s Office, is particularly vital given the 1625 registered Multi-State Cooperative Societies across the country with millions of associated members. The enhanced infrastructure is expected to facilitate smoother operations and improved efficiency.
The inauguration ceremony will witness the presence of the Minister of State for Cooperation, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Managing Director of NBCC, and representatives from Multi-State Cooperative Federations, Societies, and Banks nationwide. This collective effort aims to further the cooperative movement and contribute to the robust functioning of cooperative societies in the country.
