Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Lead BPR&D Foundation Day Celebrations

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will be the Chief Guest at the 54th Foundation Day celebration of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in New Delhi on August 28, 2024. The event will highlight significant developments in Indian policing and criminal law reforms.

Chief Guest and Keynote Address

Shri Amit Shah will deliver the Dr. Anand Swaroop Gupta Memorial Lecture on “New Criminal Law – Citizen Centric Reforms.” This lecture will focus on recent changes in criminal laws aimed at improving citizen safety and justice.

Honoring Distinguished Service

During the celebration, Shri Amit Shah will present the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) for the years 2023 and 2024, recognizing exceptional contributions to law enforcement.

Publication Release

The Home Minister will also unveil a special edition of the BPR&D’s “Indian Police Journal,” which will cover advancements in new criminal laws and their implications for policing.

BPR&D’s Role and Future Vision

Since its establishment in 1970, BPR&D has played a crucial role in enhancing policing through research, policy development, and technology integration. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and Shri Shah’s guidance, the bureau is dedicated to transforming Indian Police Forces into SMART forces to address contemporary security challenges. The event will also be attended by top officials including Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan and heads of central police organizations.
