The founder of BharatAgri, Siddharth Dialani, recently received fulsome praise from seasoned industrialist Anand Mahindra after sharing the story of his best-selling product. Mahindra lauded Dialani’s post as an “object lesson in how entrepreneurial opportunities arise,” commending the young entrepreneur for attentively responding to customer needs.
It began when Dialani, co-founder of BharatAgri, shared a post detailing how hands-free torches became the best-selling product in their category on his platform. Dialani explained that his team noticed a consistent rise in torch sales on BharatAgri, despite torches not being an agricultural product.
Intrigued by this unexpected trend, the BharatAgri team consulted farmers and discovered that they needed torches to work at night during power cuts. Further inquiries revealed a demand for hands-free torches, enabling farmers to use both hands while working. Acting on this feedback, the team introduced a “mining torch” that can be strapped to the forehead. This rechargeable mining torch, priced at ₹779 on the BharatAgri website, quickly became their top-selling product in the category.
Anand Mahindra expressed his admiration for Dialani’s approach. He highlighted the importance of listening to customer feedback, acting on it, and innovating accordingly. The Mahindra Group chairman admitted that despite his extensive experience in agribusiness, he was unaware of this specific requirement.
“This is an object lesson in how entrepreneurial opportunities arise,” Mahindra noted in response to Dialani’s post on X. He emphasized the necessity of staying observant and receptive to evolving needs, and how successful companies must “swoop in” to meet these needs with suitable products.
Concluding his remarks, Mahindra acknowledged that while AI might help detect consumer behavior patterns, the fundamental principles of entrepreneurship remain unchanged. “Well done Siddharth!” he praised, recognizing Dialani’s entrepreneurial insight and innovation.
