Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Defends Loco Pilots Amid Opposition Criticism

Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressed concerns and misconceptions surrounding the working conditions of loco pilots, emphasizing their critical role in the railway sector.

Improved Working Conditions

Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that loco pilots’ duty hours are meticulously monitored, ensuring rest periods are adhered to after trips. On average, duty hours in June remained below 8 hours, with any extensions strictly under exigent circumstances.

Enhanced Loco Cabs

Since 2014, over 7,000 loco cabs have been equipped with ergonomic seats and air conditioning, significantly improving pilot comfort and operational efficiency.

Off-Duty Resting Facilities

Following trips, pilots utilize upgraded running rooms across 558 locations, now all air-conditioned and equipped with amenities like foot massagers, enhancing post-duty relaxation.

Recruitment Initiatives

Vaishnaw highlighted recent recruitment drives, where 34,000 running staff have been onboarded, with an additional 18,000 in the pipeline, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering the railway workforce.

The minister condemned attempts to spread misinformation to undermine railway personnel morale, affirming solidarity within the railway community’s dedication to national service.
