Asrani, whose Bollywood career has spanned five decades, is a popular Indian actor and director. In Hindi films, he has had over 350 acting roles. Asrani has played lead, character, comedic, and supporting roles. He is best known for his role in Sholay as a jailer and for the 25 films he played with Rajesh Khanna in the lead role between 1972 and 1991.
Early Life:
Asrani was born into a Sindhi family of middle-class status in Jaipur. His father’s carpet shop opened. He has three brothers and four sisters: two elder and two younger. Asrani was weak in mathematics and uninterested in business.
He completed his high school education from St. Xaviers School and did his college education from Rajasthan College, Jaipur. To pay for his education, he simultaneously worked as a voice artist at All India Radio, Jaipur. He married actress Manju Bansal, who he fell in love with while working together on films like Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Namak Haram.
