Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has underscored the importance of World Wildlife Day, emphasizing its role in recognizing the intrinsic connection between humans and wildlife, crucial for maintaining a harmonious ecosystem. Sarma acknowledges Assam’s abundant wildlife as a cornerstone of the state’s natural allure.
World Wildlife Day, observed on March 3rd annually, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna & Flora (CITES) in 1973. Proposed by Thailand, this day serves as a global platform to raise awareness about the preservation of wildlife and flora.
Sarma’s remarks highlight the need to cherish and protect the diverse wildlife found in Assam, which contributes to the state’s ecological richness. As the world commemorates World Wildlife Day, it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard endangered species and their habitats, ensuring a sustainable future for both wildlife and humanity.
