Early Life and Education
Born on June 6, 1890, in Raha, Assam, Gopinath Bordoloi overcame personal hardships, including the loss of his mother at a young age. He excelled academically, studying at Cotton College and Scottish Church College, before earning his M.A. from the University of Calcutta.
Political Career and Contributions
Bordoloi, an ardent follower of Gandhian principles, served as the first Chief Minister of Assam from 1946 to 1950. His unselfish dedication earned him the title “Lokpriya,” meaning “loved by all,” conferred by Assam’s then Governor, Jayram Das Doulatram.
