Assam CM Boosts Tea Tribes’ Development with Welfare Initiatives

Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the welfare and development of the Tea Tribes community with a series of targeted initiatives. These measures aim to uplift the socio-economic status of the community through various supportive policies and programs.

Among the key initiatives announced:

  • 20% Bonus for ATCL Tea Garden Workers: Recognizing the contributions of tea garden workers, a 20% bonus has been allocated to enhance their earnings and welfare.
  • 3% Reservation in State Government Jobs: Ensuring equitable representation, the state government has reserved 3% of jobs specifically for members of the Tea Tribes community.
  • 30 MBBS Seats Reserved: In a significant move towards educational empowerment, 30 seats in MBBS courses have been reserved for deserving candidates from the Tea Tribes community.
  • ₹25,000 Assistance to Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs): Empowering women’s economic independence, financial assistance of ₹25,000 will be provided to support the establishment and growth of women-led self-help groups.
  • Establishment of 118 Model Schools: Enhancing access to quality education, the government is establishing 118 model schools across Assam, ensuring educational facilities are accessible to Tea Tribes children.

These initiatives underscore the state government’s proactive approach to addressing socio-economic disparities and fostering inclusive growth.
