Ashneer Grover: BharatPe’s ex-managing Director, Ashneer Grover, and his wife, Madhuri Jain, were intercepted by Delhi Police while en route to New York on Thursday night. This move follows heightened investigations into allegations of financial fraud against the couple. Days earlier, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police submitted a status report to the Delhi High Court regarding purported financial irregularities at BharatPe involving Grover and his family.
A lookout circular was issued for the couple earlier in the week, leading to their detainment by the police. Currently, there have been no arrests made. The police aim to question the couple regarding substantial transactions discovered through scrutiny of their bank accounts. A senior Delhi Police officer revealed that the total amount implicated in the alleged fraud could exceed ₹81 crore.
Grover, also the founder of Third Unicorn, acknowledged the EOW summons on social media but emphasized that he had not received any communication from them since the filing of the FIR in May. He outlined the sequence of events, including being stopped at the airport, the issuance of the lookout circular, and the subsequent delivery of the summons at his residence on Friday morning. Despite the developments, Grover asserted his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
In a social media (Twitter) post, he stated, “No drama. LOC removal is a process—I am not a flight risk, easy to prove. For the rest, feel free to write what you want. The show is running for free—enjoy!”
Grover also addressed premature speculations, cautioning against pronouncing judgment before the facts unfold, saying, “Don’t pronounce me dead till 13 days after you’ve burned me at the pyre!”
