Bhupender Yadav: Project Cheetah Aligns With PM Modi’s Commitment To Wildlife Conservation

On the 25th of March, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, recently expressed his appreciation for the steps taken by the Government of India for bringing back the Cheetah to India and restoring its lost glory. During the Consultative Committee meeting on Project Cheetah, chaired by Yadav, the Minister said that this project is in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s commitment to environmental protection and wildlife conservation.

Project Cheetah aims to reintroduce the cheetah, which was declared extinct in India in 1952, back into its natural habitat. The project will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase focusing on the introduction of a small number of cheetahs in suitable habitats to establish a breeding population.

Yadav stated that the project will not only help in the conservation of the cheetah but will also lead to enhanced livelihood opportunities for local communities through eco-development and ecotourism activities. He emphasized the importance of the active participation of all stakeholders in the conservation and protection of wildlife and the environment.

During the Consultative Committee meeting, the Members of Parliament raised issues related to forests and wildlife in their constituencies, as well as issues of a larger interest in society and wildlife conservation. Yadav thanked the members for their suggestions and assured them that all the issues raised would be addressed in earnest.

The successful translocation of cheetahs from African countries to India was appreciated by the Members of Parliament, who applauded the efforts of the Government in this regard. Project Cheetah is a step towards restoring India’s rich biodiversity and will go a long way in the conservation and protection of the environment.

The Government’s commitment to wildlife conservation and the environment is evident in the implementation of Project Cheetah. The active participation of all stakeholders is crucial in ensuring the success of this project and the conservation of India’s rich biodiversity.
