Bhupender Yadav, The Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, has announced that the first Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group Meeting will be held in Bengaluru from February 9-11, 2023. This meeting is being held as part of India’s G20 presidency and its aim is to bring a collective, integrated, and consensus-driven approach to address the issue of climate change and promote sustainable growth.
The conference will be chaired by Ms. Leena Nandan, Forest and Climate Change. Delegates from G20 countries and representatives from international organizations will be in attendance, all with the common goal of finding solutions to the challenges of climate change.
The working group will focus on three main priorities, including arresting land degradation, accelerating ecosystem restoration, and enriching biodiversity. It will also promote a sustainable and climate-resilient blue economy and encourage resource efficiency and a circular economy. The LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) theme will be a cross-cutting aspect across all three priorities.
The meeting will take place over three days and will include a side event to witness the ecosystem restoration and biodiversity enrichment practices in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The subsequent meetings will take place in Gandhinagar, Mumbai, and Chennai.
This meeting is an important step in addressing the pressing issue of climate change and promoting sustainable growth. The goal of the meeting is to come up with a comprehensive and integrated approach to tackling the challenges of climate change, and it is expected to set the tone for further discussions and actions on the issue in the future.
