Bihar News: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emerged victorious in a significant floor test held in the state assembly on Monday. Securing 129 votes, Kumar’s position was reinforced, while the opposition, led by the RJD, staged a walkout before the voting commenced. The chief minister’s victory was notably bolstered by the support of at least five RJD MLAs who defected to back him.
This development comes in the wake of Nitish Kumar’s pivotal decision on January 28 to terminate his alliance with the RJD and return to the NDA fold. The political landscape in Bihar has been in flux since then, with Kumar’s move reshaping alliances and power dynamics. Presently, the BJP commands 77 MLAs, while the JDU holds 44 seats in the 243-member House.
During his address in the assembly, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar highlighted the significant strides Bihar has taken under his leadership since assuming office in 2005. He juxtaposed his administration’s achievements with the previous tenure of RJD rule, particularly targeting Tejashwi Yadav, his former deputy, and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Kumar’s impassioned speech questioned the efficacy of the previous RJD regime, pointing out the rampant lawlessness and lack of infrastructure during that period. He reminded the assembly of the prevailing environment where citizens feared venturing out at night and the absence of basic amenities like roads. Kumar’s critique was aimed at Tejashwi Yadav, invoking the legacies of his father and mother, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, who had previously governed Bihar.
The outcome of the floor test solidifies Nitish Kumar’s position as the Chief Minister of Bihar, signaling a new chapter in the state’s political landscape. His victory underscores the shifting alliances and dynamics within Bihar’s political spectrum, setting the stage for future developments in the region.
