Kangana Ranaut, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, exercised her franchise in the seventh phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Emphasizing the significance of democratic participation, she urged people to join the “festival of democracy” by casting their votes.
“I have cast my vote right now. I urge the people to actively participate in the festival of democracy by exercising their right to vote. “I am optimistic about the widespread support for PM Modi’s initiatives in Himachal Pradesh. I believe that the people of Mandi will favor me, leading to victory in all four seats of the state. Himachal Pradesh’s 4 seats will contribute to ‘400 paar’,” she stated.
The Mandi Lok Sabha seat witnesses a riveting electoral battle between Kangana Ranaut and Congress’ Vikramaditya Singh. Kangana Ranaut, leveraging her celebrity image and aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stands against Singh, who relies on the legacy of his father, former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, and state Congress chief Pratibha Singh.
The Mandi constituency holds symbolic significance for the Congress, traditionally considered a bastion of the Virbhadra family. Currently held by Pratibha Devi Singh, the late leader’s widow, for Congress, the constituency saw a bye-election following the demise of then-BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma.
With 13,77,173 voters, including males, females, and third-gender individuals, spread across six districts and 17 assembly segments, Mandi’s electoral landscape is diverse and crucial in determining the state’s political course.
As polling continues in Himachal Pradesh, both BJP and Congress vie for dominance in the state, with the BJP eyeing a repeat of its 2019 Lok Sabha sweep.
