Boosting Rural Connectivity: PMGSY Phase-3 Receives Significant Funding Approval

In a significant development for rural infrastructure, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase-3 has received a substantial financial injection. The Rural Development Department has recently approved the release of Rs 572.80 crore as the central share and Rs 382.82 crore as the state share, totaling Rs 955.62 crore, for this crucial initiative. This funding will contribute to the enhancement of rural road connectivity, marking a significant step towards improving accessibility and reducing poverty in rural areas.

“In the year 2022, the PMGSY has witnessed the rapid adoption of Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology for road construction. This innovative approach is being implemented on a total of nine routes in various regions, including Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Agra, Hathras, Mainpuri, Hamirpur, and Jhansi. These nine routes have been selected as part of a pilot project to test and implement FDR technology, which holds the potential to revolutionize road construction practices in rural areas”.

“The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was initiated by the Central Government in December 2000 with a two-fold objective: reducing poverty and establishing an extensive network of rural roads. The program is dedicated to setting high technical and management standards, promoting state-level policy development, and ensuring sustainable management of the rural road network. Notably, the PMGSY scheme exclusively covers rural areas, while urban road development falls outside its scope”.

The recent approval of Rs 955.62 crore in funding underscores the government’s commitment to furthering rural connectivity and addressing the infrastructure needs of India’s villages. The PMGSY Phase-3, with its innovative use of FDR technology, represents a forward-looking approach to road development in rural regions, promising improved accessibility and socio-economic development for local communities.
