The Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath, recently unveiled a crucial decision by the state government to enhance benefits for state employees. A 46% Dearness Allowance increase for 16.35 lakh state employees and a 30-day salary bonus for 14.82 lacks non-gazetted personnel were among the notable announcements. This move is a token of appreciation and an effort to further support the state workforce.
Enhanced Dearness Allowance:
The state government approved a substantial increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for a vast section of employees, including teachers and non-teaching staff. The revised rate, set at 46% of the basic salary effective from July 1, 2023, represents a considerable hike from the previous rate of 42%. This increment extends to all regular and full-time employees, work-charged employees, and post holders under the University Grants Commission pay scales, operating in state government setups, aided educational institutions, technical educational institutions, and urban local bodies.
Process and Impact:
The enhanced DA amount, applicable from July 1st to October 31st, will be directed into employees’ Provident Fund accounts. The employees will receive the DA increment in cash, bundled with their November salary in December. However, this decision will contribute to an additional monthly expenditure of Rs 215 crore on the state government, ensuring greater financial support for the state workforce.
Bonus Distribution:
Additionally, the state government sanctioned a bonus equivalent to 30 days’ salary for around 14.82 lakh non-gazetted employees, including work-charged personnel and staff in government departments, aided educational and technical educational institutions, local bodies, and district panchayat employees. The bonus amount for the fiscal year 2022-23 stands at Rs 6908 per employee, with 75% of this amount slated for the Employees Provident Fund (GPF) account and 25% to be paid in cash. For employees not enrolled in GPF, the amount will be disbursed in the form of National Savings Certificates. This gesture will involve a bonus payment totaling Rs 1022 crore, with Rs 383 crore directed to GPF accounts and Rs 639 crore in cash.
The Chief Minister’s announcement regarding the increased Dearness Allowance and bonus for state employees reflects the state government’s commitment to supporting and acknowledging the dedicated workforce. These measures not only enhance employee benefits but also signify the government’s investment in its human resources, fostering motivation and financial security among the state workforce.
