Om Birla: A Profile of Distinguished Service

Om Birla, born on November 23, 1962, is a multifaceted personality, seamlessly blending roles as an Indian politician, agriculturist, and dedicated social worker. Since 2019, he has served as the 17th and current Speaker of the Lok Sabha, a position of great responsibility and leadership.

Representing the Kota-Bundi constituency in Rajasthan as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Om Birla has been a stalwart in Indian politics. His journey began in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, where he represented the Kota South Assembly constituency from 2003 to 2014.

Early Life and Academic Pursuits

Om Birla’s roots trace back to a Marwari Hindu family, born to Shrikrishna Birla and Shakuntala Devi. His academic journey led him to attain a master’s degree in commerce from Govt. Commerce College, Kota, & Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer. In 1991, he embraced marital bliss with Amita Birla, and the couple was blessed with two daughters, Akansha and Anjali.

Political Odyssey: From Legislative Assembly to Lok Sabha

Om Birla’s political career took flight in 2003 when he secured victory in the assembly elections from Kota South. Subsequent elections in 2008 and 2013 showcased his unwavering support, with resounding victories. Notably, from 2003 to 2008, he held the position of Parliamentary Secretary (MoS rank) in the Rajasthan Government.

His political trajectory ascended further when he successfully contested as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Kota constituency, securing seats in both the 16th and 17th Lok Sabha. In the 16th Lok Sabha, he actively contributed as a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
