Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) Marks 40th Foundation Day with Technological Milestones

On August 25, 2023, the esteemed Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier Telecom Research and Development (R&D) center under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, celebrated its 40th Foundation Day. The event was inaugurated by Shri Devusinh Chauhan, Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications, Government of India.

In his inaugural address, Devusinh Chauhan highlighted the imperative need to modernize communication networks swiftly by embracing cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). He encouraged young engineers and entrepreneurs to relentlessly innovate, aligning with the vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” put forth by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Chauhan praised the array of technology use cases and indigenous solutions showcased in the exhibition, an integral part of the annual day function.

One of the event’s pivotal moments was the inauguration of C-DOT’s Enterprise Security Operation Centre (ESOC) at its New Delhi campus. During the ceremony, Shri Devusinh Chauhan launched TRINETRA, a comprehensive security solution comprising Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Orchestration and Automated Response (SOAR), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), User Entity and Behavior Analytics (UEBA), Multi-Source Threat Intelligence, and more. TRINETRA offers 24×7 near real-time actionable insights into cyber-security status, detecting and resolving cyber-threats such as viruses, malware, ransomware, and spyware. It extends its safeguarding capabilities to the critical digital infrastructure of various Government departments, effectively countering evolving cyber threats.

The event also hosted a technical conference centered on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML)” as part of its GB Meemamsi Lecture Series. Esteemed domain experts, veterans, and academicians shared their insights into the burgeoning trends of AI and ML and their applications in diverse sectors, including health, defense, and security systems. This conference, inaugurated by Shri Devusinh Chauhan, was graced by the presence of Shri Manish Sinha, Member (Finance), Digital Communications Commission, and Shri AK Sahu, Member (Services), Digital Communications Commission.

Shri Manish Sinha, in his address, emphasized the importance of commercializing indigenous technologies efficiently to reduce time-to-market and foster new export opportunities for home-grown technologies. AK Sahu accentuated the role of indigenous R&D in solving real-time complexities, strengthening national networks, and contributing to overall national growth.

The technical conference featured a diverse range of topics related to AI and ML, with talks delivered by notable speakers such as Shri Kamal Aggarwal, Prof. Brejesh Lall, Prof. Swagatam Das, Prof. Mayank Vatsa, Shri Deepak Vishwakarma, Shri Tavpritesh Sethi, Shri Jigar Halani, and Ms. Pooja Yadav. Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, Chief Executive Officer of C-DOT, showcased the organization’s strides in Telecom and ICT, including AI and ML. He expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister and other dignitaries for their trust and reaffirmed C-DOT’s commitment to achieving “Aatmanirbharta” (self-reliance) in the Telecom sector through indigenous innovations.

The event witnessed active participation from AI and ML experts, emerging startups showcasing their products, and members of the media, further cementing C-DOT’s pivotal role in shaping India’s technological landscape.
