Weather Systems and Forecast
Western Disturbances Impacting Northern Regions
A fresh Western Disturbance is observed as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies, roughly along Long. 55°E to the north of Lat. 32°N. Expect light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on 12th & 13th January. Another Western Disturbance is forecasted to affect the Western Himalayan Region from 16th January, leading to light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over the same northern regions on 16th & 17th January.
Rainfall in Southern Regions
For the next 24 hours, isolated light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep, followed by dry weather. South Tamil Nadu might experience isolated heavy rainfall today.
Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning
Fog Conditions in Northern and Eastern Regions
Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected during the mornings in some parts of Punjab and in isolated pockets over Haryana, and Chandigarh from 12th to 16th January. Additionally, East Uttar Pradesh will experience dense to very dense fog on 12th & 13th, followed by dense fog for the subsequent three days. Isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, north Madhya Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura will witness dense fog conditions during different periods from 12th to 16th January.
Cold Day Conditions
Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are expected to persist in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh on the 11th & 12th, and in isolated pockets of Punjab during the 13th–and 15th of January, 2024. Cold day conditions will continue in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand on the 11th & 12th, over West Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh on the 11th of January 2024, abating thereafter.

Temperature Drop in Central and East India
A gradual fall of 2-3°C in minimum temperatures is likely over many parts of Central and East India during the next three days, with no significant change thereafter.
Cold Wave Conditions in Northwestern Regions
Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions is expected to continue in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on the 12th & 13th, with cold wave conditions in other isolated pockets on the 14th January 2024. Additionally, cold wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana on the 12th & 13th of January 2024, and ground frost conditions are expected over Uttarakhand and Rajasthan on the 12th & 13th of January, 2024.

11th -12th Jan: Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is likely over the Gulf of Mannar, Comorin Area, and adjoining Maldives area. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
13th-14th Jan: Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is expected over southern parts of the Southwest & Southeast Arabian Sea.
