Weather: As Weather tightens its grip over northern India, recent observations reveal minimum temperatures plunging to 6-10°C in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and 8-12°C in Delhi, Jharkhand, north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. These temperatures are notably below normal, varying by 2-4°C in certain pockets of Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. The lowest minimum temperature, a chilly 5.0°C, was reported in Motihari, Bihar, just yesterday.
Weather Systems and Forecast:
Looking ahead, two consecutive Western Disturbances are expected to impact northwest India over the next 4-5 days. Under their influence:
- Rainfall/Snowfall: Anticipate light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and snowfall across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during January 31 to February 4. Isolated heavy precipitation is also likely in specific regions.
- Hailstorm: Isolated hailstorms are on the forecast for Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand on January 31 and February 1.
- Surface Winds: Brace for strong and chilly surface winds (30-40 kmph) over Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on January 31.
In the eastern regions:
- Rainfall/Snowfall: Expect light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh from January 31 to February 5. Isolated to scattered rainfall is also predicted over West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur & Tripura from January 31 to February 2.
- Hailstorm: Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim might experience isolated hailstorms on January 31 and February 2.
Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning:
- Dense Fog: Prepare for dense to very dense fog conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on January 31, and February 2, and isolated pockets on February 3. Similar conditions are expected in East Uttar Pradesh on January 31 & February 1 and in West Uttar Pradesh on January 31.
Minimum Temperature Forecast and Cold Wave Warning:
- Temperature Rise: A rise of 2-4°C in minimum temperatures is likely over many parts of Northwest & Central India in the next 2 days, with no significant change thereafter.
- Cold Wave: No cold wave conditions are anticipated over any part of the country in the next 5 days.
