Chhattisgarh CM Pays Tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ram on His Death Anniversary

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has paid a heartfelt tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ram on the occasion of his death anniversary. Remembered fondly as “Babuji,” Jagjivan Ram played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence and the fight for social equality. He was instrumental in founding the All India Depressed Classes League in 1935, advocating tirelessly for the rights of Dalits.

Babu Jagjivan Ram’s political career was illustrious, spanning roles such as the youngest minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s interim government and a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. His tenure as Defence Minister during the Indo-Pak war of 1971, leading to the creation of Bangladesh, and his contributions to the Green Revolution and agricultural modernization are remembered as milestones in India’s history.

Despite his initial alignment with Indira Gandhi’s Emergency period policies, Jagjivan Ram later joined the Janata Party alliance, serving as Deputy Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979. His political journey culminated with the formation of Congress (J) in 1981.

Babu Jagjivan Ram’s legacy endures through his dedication to social justice and his record-setting tenure as a federal minister, making him an indelible figure in India’s political landscape and a champion of the oppressed and marginalized communities.
