Rani Durgavati (5 October 1524 – 24 June 1564) was the queen regent of Gondwana from 1550 until her death in 1564. Born in the fortress of Kalinjar to the Chandela Rajput king Shalbaham of Mahoba, she married King Dalpat Shah of Gondwana in 1542, strengthening the alliance between the Chandelas and the Rajgonds. As regent for her son Vir Narayan, she is chiefly remembered for her staunch defense against the Mughal Empire, marking her place in history as a symbol of resistance and courage.
