Maharaja Praveerchandra Bhanjdev, born on June 25, 1929, was the 20th Maharaja of Bastar State. Educated at Rajkumar College, Raipur, he ascended to the throne in 1936 and became a pivotal figure in Bastar’s history. He dedicated himself to advocating for the rights of local tribal communities, leading movements against the exploitation of natural resources and corruption in land reforms.

On March 25, 1966, Maharaja Praveerchandra Bhanjdev tragically lost his life along with several tribal supporters during a confrontation with the police at his palace in Jagdalpur. His death, marked by police firing, remains a poignant chapter in Bastar’s history, highlighting his unwavering commitment to the cause of his people.
