The scheduling clash between the Indian Institute of Technology’s Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) Main and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examination has been successfully resolved by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The second session of IIT-JEE Main 2024 has been rescheduled to avoid any overlap with the CBSE Class 12 exams.
The conflict arose when CBSE released the exam schedule for classes 10 and 12 on December 12, 2023, with a subsequent revision. The NTA had earlier released the IIT-JEE dates in September of the previous year. Upon reviewing both circulars, it was observed that the examination dates were overlapping, causing concerns for students preparing for both.
The first session of JEE Main 2024 is scheduled between January 24 and February 1, preceding the commencement of CBSE Class 12 exams, which are set to begin on February 15. The CBSE Class 12 board examination is expected to conclude on April 2, with the second session of JEE Main 2024 initially clashing with board exams scheduled between April 1 and April 15, according to the NTA circular.
“In response to the conflict, CBSE requested NTA to reschedule the second session of JEE Main, urging parents to follow up with NTA. The Director General of NTA, Subodh Singh, stated that the second session of JEE Main would now be conducted after April 3, accommodating the CBSE Class 12 exam schedule”.
CBSE released a revised date sheet on January 4, making changes to the exam dates for a few subjects of Class 10 and 12. Notably, the CBSE Class 12 Fashion Studies exam, initially scheduled for March 11, has been postponed to March 21.
This resolution ensures that students appearing for both IIT-JEE Main and CBSE Class 12 exams will not face scheduling conflicts, allowing them to focus on their preparations without unnecessary stress. The collaborative effort between CBSE and NTA demonstrates a commitment to the well-being of students during this critical examination period.
