Shivrajyabhishek Day: Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, paid homage to the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of Shivrajyabhishek, also known as Hindu Samrajya Divas, at Sankhali and Bicholim. This significant day commemorates the historic coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who crowned himself on Jyeshtha Shuddha Trayodashi Shalivahan Shaka 1596, or June 6, 1674.

The coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj marked a pivotal moment in Indian history, symbolizing the establishment of a sovereign state and the dawn of a new era. His assumption of the title “Chhatrapati,” meaning sovereign and all-powerful, signified a landmark event in the annals of Indian monarchy.

The elaborate preparations for the coronation, spanning several months, involved the participation of Brahmins from across the country and drew crowds of around one lakh people to Raigad. The ceremony was steeped in religious rituals and traditions, with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj seeking blessings from his mother, Jijabai, and engaging in worship at various temples.

The coronation rituals included the anointing of the king and the placement of an umbrella over his head, symbolizing his sovereignty and authority. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s attire, adorned with jewels and garlands of flowers, reflected the grandeur and significance of the occasion.
