Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans for a law to impose stricter punishments for cases of ‘love jihad.’ The law aims to address cases where individuals deceive women about their identities.
‘Love Jihad’: Impersonation on Social Media
Sarma highlighted that individuals often impersonate Hindu men on social media to marry Hindu women. The proposed legislation seeks to provide justice for victims of such deceitful practices.
Legislation to Protect Communities
The Assam government is also considering a law requiring permissions for Hindu-Muslim land deals. This move aims to protect the demographic integrity of original communities like ST, SC, and OBC.
Amendments and Domicile Rules
Sarma confirmed plans to amend the Waqf bill and introduce a domicile rule, ensuring only Assam’s natives are eligible for government jobs, further safeguarding the state’s cultural and demographic fabric.
