As the monsoon season approaches, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives aimed at mitigating waterlogging and ensuring public health and hygiene. In a recent statement, CM Yogi underscored the critical need to clean drains across the state, emphasizing, “In view of the rains, the drains should be cleaned so that silt does not accumulate and there is no waterlogging anywhere during the rains.”
This proactive measure is crucial for preventing the common issue of waterlogging that plagues many urban and rural areas during heavy rainfall. Accumulated silt and debris in drains often lead to blockages, causing streets and residential areas to flood, thereby disrupting daily life and posing health risks.
Beyond the focus on drain maintenance, CM Yogi also highlighted the importance of cleanliness in slum areas. He pointed out the pressing need for maintaining hygiene in these densely populated and often underserved communities. “Cleanliness is extremely needed in slums. Regular fogging should also be done here,” he stated, acknowledging the vulnerability of slum dwellers to diseases, particularly during the monsoon season when the risk of vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria rises.
The Chief Minister called for “concrete efforts” in solid waste management, recognizing that efficient waste management is a cornerstone of public health. Proper disposal and management of waste not only prevent the spread of disease but also contribute to a cleaner and more livable environment.
Regular fogging, a practice aimed at reducing mosquito populations, was also stressed by CM Yogi as a preventive measure. This is particularly important in slum areas where standing water can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, thereby increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.
