Uttar Pradesh: In an effort to support the economic interests of street vendors, the government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant step by announcing the organization of Diwali fairs across all 75 districts from November 9 to 11. This three-day fair aims to not only promote the festive spirit but also to increase the income of street vendors by providing them a platform to showcase and sell various products.
The fair, operating under the PM Swanidhi initiative, will witness the participation of street vendors and self-help groups who will display and vend diverse products. The State Urban Livelihood Mission has issued the necessary guidelines to ensure the smooth and successful execution of this event.
“AK Sharma, the Urban Development Minister, highlighted the government’s commitment to this initiative, emphasizing that, akin to the previous year, a Diwali fair will be organized. Detailed guidelines have been disseminated to ensure the fair’s efficient execution”.
District Magistrates have been tasked with organizing the fair at open grounds, ensuring adequate space for food stalls, cultural programs, swings, and parking. Furthermore, instructions have been provided to guarantee essential amenities such as electricity, water, and cleanliness at the fairground.
“To orchestrate the fair effectively, a committee under the leadership of the District Magistrate will outline the timeline for the fair’s proceedings. Additionally, a medical camp is set to be organized, providing medical assistance and medications to street vendors, their families, and members of self-help groups”.
The fair will not only focus on sales but will also include various competitions and cultural programs for buyers and the families of street vendors. Notably, exceptional street vendors making significant contributions will be honored during the event.
The initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to fostering economic opportunities and celebrating the spirit of Diwali while empowering street vendors across the state of Uttar Pradesh.
