In a significant and forward-thinking initiative, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the ‘Shri Anna Mahotsav’ and a state-level ‘Shri Anna Exhibition and Workshop’ in Lucknow, marking the celebration of International Millets Year 2023. This event is part of the ‘Uttar Pradesh Millets Revival Programme,’ which aims to promote the cultivation and consumption of millets, recognized for their nutritional benefits and sustainability.

During the inauguration, CM Yogi made several crucial announcements to support and boost the millet farming sector. He stated that a grant of ₹4.04 lakh would be provided to Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to facilitate the production of authentic and verified millet seeds. Additionally, ₹95.95 lakh was allocated to Krishi Vigyan Kendras to establish ‘Millets Processing and Packing cum Marketing Centers.’ This move is expected to streamline millet processing, packaging, and marketing, thereby increasing the accessibility of millet-based products to consumers.

“Furthermore, a symbolic gesture of support for millet farming was made when CM Yogi distributed a check during the event, demonstrating the state’s commitment to revitalizing millet agriculture and the livelihoods of farmers in Uttar Pradesh”.

Highlighting the significance of the ‘Shri Anna Mahotsav,’ Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that this initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to usher in comprehensive changes in the lives of Annadata farmers in Uttar Pradesh and to enhance agricultural research. This marks a milestone in advancing the agricultural sector in the state, and it underscores the government’s commitment to the welfare of the agricultural community.

“In his closing remarks, CM Yogi extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all those associated with the agriculture sector. The ‘Shri Anna Mahotsav’ and the broader ‘Uttar Pradesh Millets Revival Programme’ serve as a testament to the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable and nutritious agriculture, and it is expected to benefit both farmers and consumers in the state”.

The ‘Shri Anna Mahotsav’ and the associated programs are a significant step toward realizing the potential of millets in improving food security, nutrition, and livelihoods for farmers in Uttar Pradesh, aligning with the global recognition of millets as a valuable crop in the quest for a sustainable and healthy future.
