On 23rd December CM Yogi pays humble tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary.

“Chaudhary Charan Singh struggled throughout his life for the welfare of the exploited, deprived, neglected, and food-giving farmer brothers”.

About Chaudhary Charan Singh:-

Chaudhary Charan Singh (23 December 1902 – 29 May 1987) was a farmer politician and the fifth Prime Minister of India. He held this position from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980. The rural environment and the dignity of Indianness are what Chaudhary Charan Singh lived his entire life for.

The resolution of complete Swaraj was passed in the Lohar session of the Congress, influenced by which young Chaudhary Charan Singh became active in politics.

He formed the Congress Committee in Ghaziabad. He supported Mahatma Gandhi’s call for the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930 by making salt on the Hindon River. He also had to go to jail for it.

The farmers considered him the leader. He prepared the Zamindari Abolition Bill based on the welfare principle of the state. He caused the Zamindari system to be abolished in UP on July 1, 1952, which gave rights to the poor.

He created the post of accountant. He passed the Uttar Pradesh Land Conservation Act in 1954 in the interest of the farmers.

On 3 April 1967, he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister on 17 April 1968. He was successful in the mid-term elections and became the Chief Minister again on 17 February 1970.

He established Mandal and Minorities Commission after he became the Home Minister in the Central Government. As Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, he established the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development [NABARD] in 1979.

On 28 July 1979, Chaudhary Charan Singh became Prime Minister with the support of the Samajwadi parties and the United Congress Party.
