Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be hosted by Bangladesh, taking place in September and October. Defending champions Australia will be vying for their fourth consecutive title, having secured victory against South Africa in the 2023 final.
The tournament will feature ten teams, with eight already determined. Bangladesh qualifies automatically as the host nation, along with the top six teams from the previous World Cup: Australia, South Africa, England, India, New Zealand, and West Indies. Pakistan claimed the eighth spot based on their ICC Women’s T20 rankings on 27 February 2023.
The remaining two spots will be decided at the 10-team World Cup Qualifier event scheduled for early 2024, with the venue yet to be disclosed. Ireland and Sri Lanka, having participated in the 2023 World Cup, are expected to be strong contenders, while Thailand aims to secure a return to the global T20 stage after featuring in the 2020 competition.
The upcoming edition marks the ninth installment of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Australia, with six titles, leads the record books, followed by England, the inaugural winners in 2009, and West Indies in 2016. This tournament holds particular significance as it precedes cricket’s Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The cricketing world eagerly anticipates the thrilling contests that will unfold in Bangladesh as teams vie for T20 supremacy.
