The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) made a spectacular mark in the Republic Day Parade 2024 with a tableau showcasing the transformative journey of lavender cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir, symbolizing the ‘Purple Revolution’ unleashed through CSIR’s scientific interventions. The visually enchanting display aligned seamlessly with the Viksit Bharat theme, underscoring India’s progress and development.
CSIR’s groundbreaking efforts in lavender cultivation began with the development of an elite lavender variety suitable for the temperate regions of J&K. The organization provided free saplings and comprehensive agro-technologies to farmers, coupled with the installation of distillation units for essential oil extraction across the region. This success has earned J&K the moniker, ‘Purple Revolution.’
The front section of the tableau depicted extensive lavender cultivation and featured an empowered 21st-century woman farmer from J&K. The middle section showcased CSIR’s scientific interventions, emphasizing the quality planting materials provided to farmers. The tableau also highlighted farmers actively engaged in lavender cultivation, portraying the practical aspects of lavender farming.
An integral part of CSIR’s agricultural innovation was showcased in the form of India’s first women-friendly compact electric tractor, PRIMA ET11. Positioned under agro-mechanical technology, this indigenous tractor marked a significant leap in sustainable and efficient farming practices.
The tableau didn’t just focus on lavender cultivation but extended its narrative to the agri-startup ecosystem. The rear section depicted the concept of agri-startups in India, emphasizing the export of lavender-based products such as perfumes, oil, and incense sticks. CSIR’s contributions to scientific developments, enhancing farmers’ incomes, promoting Naari Shakti (women empowerment), and fostering agri-startups for global business were eloquently showcased.
In essence, the CSIR tableau encapsulated the multifaceted impact of scientific innovation on agriculture and entrepreneurship. The ‘Purple Revolution’ not only transformed the landscape of J&K but also exemplified the synergy between science, agriculture, and women empowerment, aligning perfectly with the broader vision of a developed and empowered India.
