Cyclonic Storm “DANA,” presently located over the east-central and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal, is moving northwestward at a speed of 12 kmph. As of October 23rd, it is positioned about 420 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha) and is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 24th.
The storm is predicted to make landfall between Puri (Odisha) and Sagar Island (West Bengal) around the midnight of October 24th to the early morning of October 25th, It is expected to bring wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph.
Rainfall and Storm Warnings for East India
Cyclonic Storm “DANA” will bring widespread rainfall across Odisha, particularly affecting the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Puri. Heavy to weighty rainfall (up to 21 cm) is expected on October 24th and 25th. Gangetic West Bengal, including Kolkata, will also likely experience hefty downpours during this period.
Impacts on South India
South Peninsular India will see light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karnataka. Heavy rainfall is expected in Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh by October 25th, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Northeast India Forecast
The northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura, will experience light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms over the next three days. Heavy rainfall is expected on October 23rd and 24th in some regions of the Northeast.
No Significant Rainfall in Central and West India
No significant rainfall is forecast for Central, West, and Northwest India during the coming week, though shallow to moderate fog may occur in Punjab on October 23rd and 24th.
