West Bengal: A devastating cyclonic storm wreaked havoc in West Bengal, claiming the lives of at least four individuals and leaving over 100 injured. The calamity struck the district headquarters and parts of neighboring Mainaguri, causing extensive damage to homes and uprooting trees.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee swiftly responded to the crisis, rushing to the affected area to oversee rescue operations. Expressing sadness over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the storm, CM Banerjee assured affected individuals of government assistance.
In a tweet, CM Banerjee expressed sorrow over the havoc wreaked by sudden heavy rainfall and stormy winds in certain areas of Jalpaiguri-Mainaguri. The calamity resulted in loss of life, injuries, damage to homes, and uprooting of trees and electricity poles. She commended the efforts of district and block administration, police, and disaster management teams in providing relief to affected communities.
Efforts are underway to shift affected individuals to safer locations, with the district administration mobilizing resources for rescue and relief operations. CM Banerjee announced compensation for the families of the deceased and assistance for the injured, adhering to established protocols.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences to those affected by the storms, urging officials to provide adequate assistance to impacted communities. PM Modi also called upon BJP volunteers to lend support to the relief efforts, emphasizing solidarity in times of crisis.
