DARPG’s Special Campaign 2.0: A Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s Vision of a Clean India

In a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean and self-reliant India, the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) initiated a special campaign in 2021. This campaign aimed to address pending matters and grievances, ensuring efficient public service delivery. With its success, the campaign extended into 2022 and continued its impact into 2023. Special Campaign 2.0 emerged as an essential vehicle for advancing good governance and cleanliness.

Special Campaign 2.0 was a collaborative effort involving multiple government offices, including NITI Aayog and its associated entities such as the Development Monitoring & Evaluation Office (DMEO) and Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). Additionally, the campaign involved the National Institute of Labour Economics Research and Development (NILERD). These entities joined forces to drive the campaign’s objectives, ensuring timely and effective disposal of public grievances, references from Members of Parliament, state governments, inter-ministerial consultations, and parliamentary assurances by ministries and departments.

“One of the central goals of Special Campaign 2.0 was to enhance cleanliness, both indoors and outdoors, while optimizing office space. This initiative aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, emphasizing record management, office scrap disposal, and freeing up valuable office space. The campaign has made significant strides in achieving these objectives within the NITI Aayog and its attached offices”.

Throughout the campaign’s duration, substantial progress was made in the disposal of public grievances, parliamentary assurances, and references from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Record management received significant attention, resulting in the review and clearance of a substantial number of files, creating more efficient storage systems, and generating revenue through the disposal of office scrap. Notably, over 75% of the earmarked physical files have been reviewed, contributing to streamlined administrative processes.

“Moreover, the campaign achieved remarkable success in addressing public grievances and appeals, with nearly 95% disposed of during the campaign period. The effort extended beyond file management, as redundant scrap materials and obsolete items were also identified for disposal”.

In essence, DARPG’s Special Campaign 2.0 is a testament to India’s commitment to honoring Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean, efficient, and responsive government. By actively addressing pending matters, enhancing cleanliness, and optimizing office space, this initiative exemplifies the spirit of good governance and reflects India’s dedication to serving its citizens effectively.
