Delhi Capitals: Manish Pandey and Sarfaraz Khan Released Ahead of IPL 2024 Auction

The anticipation is building as the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its mini-auction ahead of the 2024 season. With the retention lists set to be unveiled by November 26, franchises are in the midst of strategic decisions that could reshape their squads. The player trading has already kicked off, with notable moves such as Rajasthan Royals swapping Devdutt Padikkal for Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan.

Delhi Capitals (DC), a team known for its bold moves, is set to release some players from its roster in preparation for the auction in Dubai on December 19. Among the notable exits are domestic stalwart Sarfaraz Khan and seasoned campaigner Manish Pandey.

Sarfaraz Khan, despite his domestic success, struggled to make an impact in the IPL. With just 53 runs in four games last season, averaging 13.25, the 29-year-old finds himself on the chopping block. Over the course of his IPL career, Sarfaraz has played 50 matches, amassing 585 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 130.58, with one fifty to his name.

Manish Pandey, a veteran in the IPL, had a below-par season in 2023 for the Capitals, scoring 160 runs from ten matches at an average of 17.78. Despite being the first Indian to score a hundred in the IPL, the 34-year-old’s future with DC is uncertain, with rumors suggesting a possible move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

One of the most anticipated comebacks is that of DC captain Rishabh Pant. After a year-long break due to injuries sustained in a car crash, Pant is expected to return for IPL 2024. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and his return is eagerly awaited by fans and teammates alike.

The auction dynamics have been further spiced up by the trade between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants, with Devdutt Padikkal moving to the Royals in exchange for Avesh Khan. The right-arm pacer Avesh Khan has 55 IPL wickets to his name from 47 matches, making him a valuable addition to any squad. On the flip side, Padikkal, a left-hand batter, has notched up 1521 runs in 57 IPL matches, including a hundred and nine half-centuries.

As the countdown to the Dubai auction begins, cricket enthusiasts are on the edge of their seats, eager to see how each franchise shapes up for the IPL 2024 season. The strategies employed in retention, release, and trading will undoubtedly set the stage for another thrilling edition of the world’s premier T20 league.
