Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has highlighted the unprecedented heatwave gripping the entire country, leading to severe water and electricity crises. He noted that while Delhi’s peak electricity demand has risen from 7438 MW last year to 8302 MW this year, the capital has managed to maintain a stable power supply, avoiding the widespread power cuts seen in other states.
However, Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that the scorching heat has significantly increased water demand. The situation is exacerbated by a reduction in water supply from neighboring states, creating a substantial supply-demand imbalance. “The demand has increased a lot, and the supply has decreased,” he said, stressing the urgency of addressing this issue collectively.
In a heartfelt appeal, Arvind Kejriwal urged political parties to set aside differences and work together to provide relief to Delhi’s residents. He specifically called on BJP allies to engage with their state governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to secure additional water for Delhi for the next month. “I urge everyone, with folded hands, to set aside politics and come together to provide relief to the people of Delhi,” he said.
Arvind Kejriwal pointed out that the extreme heat is beyond anyone’s control, but collaborative efforts can help alleviate the suffering. He emphasized the need for unity and cooperation, highlighting that such a joint approach would be greatly appreciated by the people of Delhi.
