Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail on Thursday in the alleged excise policy case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested 48 hours to sign the bail bond to appeal the verdict, but the judge declined to delay the order. Kejriwal is expected to walk out of Tihar Jail on Friday after paying a Rs 1 lakh bail bond, which will be presented before the Duty judge on Friday.
Earlier, a Delhi court reserved its order on Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking bail in the money laundering case, linked to alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped excise policy. Judge Niyay Bindu of Rouse Avenue Court, who heard the case over two days, emphasized avoiding prolonged delays and urged brevity in arguments. The court had previously denied Kejriwal’s bail on June 7 following the ED’s response.
On Wednesday, the court prolonged Kejriwal’s detention until July 3. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 for alleged excise policy irregularities, received interim bail on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections until June 2, and then surrendered.
