Delhi Faces Water Crisis: Residents Report Discoloured Supply

Delhi: Residents of Nathu Pura Colony in Delhi are grappling with an unusual and troubling problem: their water supply changes colour daily. Complaints of receiving blue, red, and even black water have surfaced, raising significant health concerns among the local population.

Delhi: Viral Social Media Videos

In Peeragarhi, a video showing blue water coming from taps has gone viral on social media, further highlighting the severity of the issue. Residents have confirmed the problem, sharing mobile videos of the discoloured water. The water supply arrives at unpredictable times—morning, evening, or night—and its colour varies with each instance.

Shift to Borewells and Hand Pumps

Due to the inconsistency and contamination of the supply of water, many residents have stopped using it altogether. Instead, they have resorted to installing borewells or hand pumps outside their homes, despite the groundwater being salty. One resident showed light yellow water with visible dirt particles, explaining that although it appears clear, it is still dirty.

Ongoing Health Concerns

Residents have shared samples of the coloured water from different households, expressing their belief that a lab test would reveal it is unsafe for use. While the blue and black water issue is new, the problem of dirty and foul-smelling water has been ongoing for some time, exacerbating health and safety concerns in the community.
