Delhi’s political landscape heated up further as Delhi Minister Atishi alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been denied basic amenities in Tihar Jail amid the city’s soaring temperatures. Atishi’s statement came shortly after Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail on June 1, following the end of his interim bail granted by the Supreme Court in connection with the excise policy-linked money laundering case.
Atishi vehemently criticized the BJP-ruled central government for its alleged maltreatment of Kejriwal. “Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by the BJP in a fake case. Yesterday, Arvind Kejriwal surrendered and went to Tihar Jail. But the BJP-ruled central government has not found peace,” she remarked, emphasizing that the BJP is sparing no effort in harassing the Delhi Chief Minister.
Highlighting the extreme weather conditions, Atishi pointed out that despite Delhi’s temperatures reaching 48-50 degrees Celsius, Kejriwal has not been provided with a cooler. “Coolers are provided to notorious criminals in Tihar Jail, but Delhi’s popular CM Arvind Kejriwal has not been given a cooler in this scorching heat,” she said, questioning the motives behind such treatment.
Atishi also directly addressed the BJP and the Lieutenant Governor, questioning their actions. “I want to ask the BJP about this. I want to ask their LG sahab how low will you stoop?” she challenged, indicating that the issue extends beyond mere political rivalry to fundamental human rights and dignity.
The situation raises serious concerns about the treatment of political figures and the conditions within Tihar Jail, especially during extreme weather. As temperatures continue to rise, the lack of basic amenities such as coolers for prisoners becomes a critical issue, prompting public scrutiny and calls for humane treatment regardless of political affiliations.
