Delhi Rain: Heavy rainfall in Delhi yesterday resulted in severe waterlogging and significant disruptions across the national capital. The torrential downpour, which brought record rainfall, prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert, advising residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Delhi Rain: Schools Closed and Traffic Chaos
Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced that all schools would remain closed on August 1 due to the severe weather conditions. Commuters experienced massive traffic congestion, particularly on the Mehrauli-Chhattarpur road and the Delhi-Noida Expressway, with some stuck for over 1.5 hours.
Fatalities and Disruptions
Tragically, in Ghazipur, a mother and her young son drowned after slipping into a waterlogged drain. In Noida, underpasses were flooded, and a wall collapse led to two deaths. Additionally, three people were electrocuted in Gurugram due to a faulty wire falling onto a waterlogged road.
Air Traffic Affected
The heavy rainfall also disrupted air traffic, leading to the diversion of at least 10 flights to Jaipur and Lucknow. Airlines have warned of potential further disruptions due to the ongoing weather conditions.
