Delhi to Noida Airport in 80 Minutes: UP Government Approves ₹16,000 Crore Rapid Rail Corridor

In a significant development for connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR), Jewar Airport is poised to establish direct connectivity with Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport through a Rs 16,000 crore rapid rail corridor. The decision, announced by the Uttar Pradesh government, marks a crucial step in enhancing the catchment area of Jewar Airport.

Shailendra Bhatia, the nodal officer at Noida International Airport, emphasized the importance of this high-speed connection between Jewar and Indira Gandhi International Airport, stating that it will significantly contribute to expanding the airport’s reach. The project has received approval from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with an anticipated total travel time of around 80 minutes.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has been assigned the responsibility of preparing a detailed report for the rapid rail corridor. This corridor is not only set to connect Jewar Airport and Indira Gandhi International Airport but also various other parts of Delhi. The comprehensive project report is expected to be finalized by March.

The integration of major airlines like Indigo and Akasa Air with Noida Airport, ahead of its inaugural flight last year, highlights the growing importance of this aviation hub.The Noida airport link will originate from the Ghaziabad station, acting as one of the interchange points for the Delhi Meerut Rapid Rail Transport.

Passengers will also benefit from connections to the under-construction Delhi-Alwar Rapid Rail through Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the Delhi-Meerut Rail. Expected to be completed by mid-2025, the Delhi-Alwar rail will feature a station at Indira Gandhi International Airport and Aerocity.

While construction activities at Jewar Airport are set to intensify in the coming months, partnerships are being forged to develop retail and food and beverage experiences at the airport. With its strategic connectivity initiatives and ongoing development, Jewar Airport aims to be operational by the end of the year, providing a significant boost to air travel in the region.
