The office of Delhi’s chief electoral officer rebutted the Aam Aadmi Party’s assertion regarding the Election Commission’s purported ban on their Lok Sabha campaign song “Jail Ka Jawab, Vote Se Denge”, dismissing it as “factually incorrect and misleading”. Clarifying the stance, the poll body emphasized that modifications were requested due to violations of EC guidelines and advertising codes.
According to a statement issued by the Delhi chief electoral officer (CEO), the AAP was notified about the need to modify the song’s contents after it was found to contravene electoral guidelines and advertising standards. Additionally, the party was informed of its right to appeal before the state-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee if it disagreed with the decision.
The over two-minute campaign song, written and sung by AAP MLA Dilip Pandey, was unveiled at the party headquarters amidst fervent campaigning activities.
AAP senior leader Atishi defended the campaign song, asserting that it does not target the BJP and does not violate the Model Code of Conduct. She emphasized the factual nature of the song’s content, citing instances such as Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, Manish Sisodia’s altercation with police, and the detention of AAP volunteers during protests.
While the AAP maintains its stance on the song’s compliance with regulations, the Election Commission’s directive underscores the regulatory scrutiny surrounding political campaign materials during election periods. As the electoral process unfolds, adherence to guidelines and standards remains paramount to ensure fairness and integrity in the democratic process.
