In a significant development for the Indian Navy, Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, has been appointed as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. This appointment will take effect from the afternoon of April 30, 2024, following the retirement of the present Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM.
Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, born on May 15, 1964, entered into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 01, 1985. With a specialization in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he boasts an illustrious career spanning nearly 39 years. Before assuming the role of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, he held the position of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. Throughout his career, VAdm DK Tripathi has commanded several Indian Naval Ships, including Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul. He has also served in various crucial operational and staff roles, such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, Principal Director of Network Centric Operations, and Principal Director of Naval Plans in New Delhi.
In his earlier ranks, as a Rear Admiral, he served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) and the Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Fleet. As a Vice Admiral, he served as Commandant of the esteemed Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Director General of Naval Operations, Chief of Personnel, and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa, and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. He has undergone training at prestigious institutions such as the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the Naval Higher Command Course in Karanja, and the Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College, USA.
