In a remarkable initiative towards the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan), the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) is organizing a unique event called ‘Divya Kala Mela.’ This event’s focus is to showcase the exceptional products and craftsmanship of Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans from across the country. From 29th June 2023 to 5th July 2023, Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, Rajasthan, will be the center stage for this enthralling experience. The Divya Kala Mela promises to bring together vibrant products from various parts of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, the North Eastern states, handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery works, and packaged food.
An Economic Empowerment Initiative
The Divya Kala Mela is a significant step taken by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) to promote the economic empowerment of PwDs (Persons with Disabilities) or Divyangjan. This event serves as a larger platform for marketing and showcasing the exceptional products and skills of Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans. The Divya Kala Mela in Jaipur, Rajasthan, marks the sixth event in the series that began in 2022. The previous events were held in Delhi in December 2022, Mumbai in February 2023, Bhopal in March 2023, Guwahati in May 2023, and Indore in June 2023.
Showcasing Divyang Entrepreneurship
The event will feature approximately 100 Divyang artisans, artists, and entrepreneurs from around 20 states and union territories. These talented individuals will display their innovative products and skills, covering a wide range of categories. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and purchase products in the following broad categories:
- Home Décor & Lifestyle
- Clothing
- Stationery and eco-friendly products
- Packaged food and organic products
- Toys & Gifts
- Personal Accessories – Jewellery, Clutch Bags
This event provides a platform to promote and support the concept of “vocal for local.” Visitors will be able to appreciate and purchase products crafted by Divyang craftsmen, who showcase exceptional determination and skill.
Engaging Activities and Cultural Performances
The 7-day Divya Kala Mela in Jaipur will be open from 10.00 A.M. to 10.00 P.M., running from 29th June to 5th July. Alongside the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a series of cultural activities and performances by Divyang artists and well-known professionals. These captivating performances will further enhance the overall experience of the event. In addition to the cultural extravaganza, visitors can indulge in delicious regional cuisines from various parts of the country.
Inauguration and Dignitaries
The inauguration of the event is scheduled for 29th June at 5.00 P.M., and it will be honored by Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The occasion will also be graced by Smt. Pratima Bhaumik, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
Future Plans
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) has ambitious plans to promote the concept of Divya Kala Mela nationwide. As part of this initiative, the event will be organized in 12 cities during the year 2023-2024. This expansion will provide a broader platform for Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans to showcase their talent and products, contributing to their economic empowerment.
